Portland Christian Counselors' Philosophy

As Portland Christian Counselors we would like to share our vision about the healing work we perform. Like most people, we've had to work through some serious struggles in our lives and the healing that we've achieved has deeply affected our work. Some of us were caught before in some very negative self-reinforcing patterns that had us feeling really miserable about ourselves and life. It wasn't until we began to truly know ourselves through working closely with another person that we were able to escape these destructive cycles. So we know the value of an understanding and non-judgmental therapist for the healing process. This means we don't hide behind a professional mask of cold professionalism as therapists when working with you. We know that the most important elements in healing work involve authentic human connection - not book knowledge. Therefore, we genuinely involve ourselves as living, feeling human beings in our work together

We take an informal, yet goal-oriented, approach to counseling. We avoid using diagnostic labels, as they can be very shaming and counterproductive in therapy. So, we prefer to make sense of your difficulties through a personal approach that acknowledges your uniqueness. After all, Jesus consistently looked for the true person behind the condemning labels given to the marginalized persons of the time.

In other words, we know you are hurting from your struggles and that fact won't be ignored yet, we don't believe those struggles ultimately define who you are. The fear of being negatively judged unfortunately keeps many people away from the very help which can so dramatically improve their lives. Portland Christian Counseling offers compassion, not condemnation.

Experiencing love-whether one gives it or receives it-is one of the deepest longings of the human heart. And being able to experience satisfying loving relationships is a primary objective of our personal and professional lives. As a result, we make enlarging the capacity to fully live and love an overarching goal in psychotherapy. This often includes helping people begin to feel deserving of love. Surprisingly, many Christians do not feel worthy of God's love and grace. If you are one of them, we would like to help you get and give the love that is vital to living a full life. Please feel free to contact any one of us to get your healing process started.
